Andrew Kang Yong Soon

Mr. Andrew Kang is a former Ministry of Education (MOE) Vice Principal with 16 years of teaching, management and leadership experiences in various secondary schools. He is trained in the teaching of English language and Physical Education, alongside expertise in curriculum and co-curriculum design, pedagogy and instructional leadership. Mr. Kang is a passionate educator and leader who believes strongly in looking after the well-being, development and growth of the staff and students. He is currently with National Institute of Education as an external consultant and lecturer.

Andrew Chin

Teacher Andrew graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) from Nanyang Technological University and started his career in software development. Attained his Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGD Ed.) from National Institute of Education in 2004. Taught at Nan Hua High School, Anderson Junior College, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and PSB Academy.

Throughout his teaching career in MOE, Andrew was deeply involved in student leadership and character development. Awarded the Caring Teacher Award in 2008. Held both academic and management appointments at Republic Polytechnic during his tenure from 2009 to 2016. Andrew believes that being educated is to be developed in all aspects of life so as to achieve one’s full potential and realise one’s aspirations in life.

He currently teaches Secondary Science and ‘O’ Level Physics.

Velvet Ng

Teacher Velvet holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from National Institute of Education (Singapore). She has many years of experience teaching in Ministry of Education (Singapore) schools. She specialises in English Literature and has a passionate interest in nurturing children to be avid readers and confident speakers. Teacher Vel has over 8 years of experience in tuition, teaching English and English Literature to children and teenagers in Singapore. Most of her students graduate with an ‘A’ grade in English and Literature.

Mengjie

Teacher Mengjie studied in Singapore for over 8 years and obtained a Bachelor of Arts and Social Sciences from NUS, majoring in Chinese Studies. She has a good understanding of the MOE syllabus and is certified to teach Chinese as a second language.

Teacher Mengjie is a passionate teacher who creates meaningful language opportunities for students and adapts her teaching style to suit students’ individual needs.

Dicky

Teacher Dicky is a Business Administration (Finance) graduate from the National University of Singapore with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (Merit) from National Institute of Education (Singapore). He has many years of experience teaching Mathematics in primary schools and Math Olympiad to a select group of students. As Level Head for Mathematics, he conducted numerous workshops for teachers at the national level (Teachers Network, Centres of Excellence and ExcelFest) and parents at the school level. For his contribution, he had garnered a number of Outstanding Contribution Awards, School Excellence Award and School Champion Award. His clarity in teaching has helped many students make sense of difficult concepts and overcome their fear of the subject. He is one of the finest mathematics teacher in Sg.

Terry

Teacher Terry is a Masters of Education (Primary Mathematics) Post-Graduate from the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (Merit) from National Institute of Education (Singapore). He is a Business Administration graduate from the National University of Singapore. He has many years of experience teaching Mathematics in primary schools ranging from Primary 3 to Primary 6. He uses a variety of proven strategies in teaching students to solve mathematical problems covering concrete, pictorial and abstract representations. Examples of strategies include model drawing, listing, formula, guess-and-check to name a few. Before his retirement, he was also holding an appointment of Head of Department (ICT) steering the school in their use of ICT as part of their learning process.

Elvira

Teacher Elvira is cheerful and enthusiastic person with a great love for children. She graduated from NUS with a degree (Honours) in English Language. After graduation, she went to Japan for 1 year of missions, during which she had experience teaching English to Japanese students. In addition, she has had a year of experience teaching English at a MOE secondary school.

Angie

Teacher Angie holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Sciences of Language from the University of Franche Comté, France. She has had extensive experience with the Ministry Of Education Language Centre, various Polytechnics and private institutions. Her competencies include teaching English, Communication Skills as well as Pronunciation, Theatre and Drama in both English and French to diverse nationalities and age groups. Angie  has had several years of Theatrical experience and is an Associate in Speech and Drama with Trinity College of London .

Her passion in teaching includes facilitating movement-based workshops to parents, teachers and therapists, as she believes in a holistic approach to Education. As an Educator, she works with the belief that each child can develop to their fullest potential and that children need time to explore, read, make music, play and build meaningful relationships with their family and friends.

Angie also graduated with a Masters in Professional Counselling from Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, and a Specialist Diploma in Counselling Psychology. As an independent Therapist, she provides coaching and counselling on various learning, socio-emotional and behavioral issues.

 

 

Pei Ying

Teacher Pei Ying holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Chinese Language and Literature) from Beijing Normal University – a joint programme with Singapore Institute of Management (SIM). She was trained in National Institute of Education (Singapore) and graduated with a diploma in Chinese Language Education. She taught Chinese Language in Ministry of Education (Singapore) schools for upper primary students and is a former PSLE examination marker. She furthered her studies in Beijing, with a  certification in IB MYP and attended Confucius Institute Symposium to learn how to teach Chinese to international students. She is an open-minded teacher with a positive attitude, always inspiring and passionate about teaching. She hopes to inspire and develop a love for the chinese language for the children under her care.

Qian Ru

Teacher Qianru is an experienced Primary School Teacher who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Education) in Chinese Language and Literature (Honours) from National Institute of Education. She scored an A in Ancient Chinese Language at Xiamen University during her exchange program. She is skilled in Chinese Literacy, Character and Civics Education Teaching, Lessons Design, Curriculum Implementation and Holistic Assessment. She was awarded Long Service Award by Ministry of Education. In her years of teaching at a primary school, Ms Tan taught Primary One to Six Chinese Language and Foundation Chinese, trained students to interact with others in oral and written modes, develop children in listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. She was in charged of the lower primary Values in Action programme. She performed the role of a Business Manager in Trainee Teacher Club. She is currently in the final year of Master of Business Administration at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Antai College of Economics and Management. Ms Tan also had a learning stint at the University of Cambridge for Leadership and Management. With a mindset of lifelong learning, she polished her pedagogy in teaching reading skills at National Taiwan Normal University. She believes in sustaining the curiosity of children and developing them to become creative thinkers.

Wei Fen

Teacher Wei Fen is an experienced former Singapore Science Centre Educator. She graduated from NUS with a Bachelor of Science (Merit), majoring in Chemistry. Ms Lee advocates teaching science in an innovative way. She was in-charge of various STEM programmes in Singapore Science Centre and conducted many science workshops. She loves to tap on the curiosity in the minds and hearts of young children. Her teaching approach focuses on experiential and hands-on learning, and creative thinking beyond the classrooms. Ms Lee is a very passionate teacher who loves science and children.

JoBeth Williams

Teacher JoBeth has a Bachelor of Communication Studies with Honours at NTU and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) at NIE. She has 8 years of teaching experience in MOE schools, specialising in upper secondary and graduating classes.Her best O-level Literature class graduated with 51% A1s, with the rest receiving B3 and A2.

She has a fierce passion for instilling a love of Literature in students as well as introducing real-world concepts, popular culture and general world knowledge and history alongside subject instruction. She has served as the Level Head of English for various levels and Literature IC for upper secondary for more than half of her teaching career. In addition, she has 3 years of experience teaching tuition and writing bespoke curricula for tuition agencies.

Wendy

Teacher Wendy specialises in multi-sensory language learning for pre-primary children and Mandarin as a foreign language for adults. Having worked with native Chinese and non native parents and children from more than 10 countries, she conducts Mandarin Chinese classes with English as a medium, or with full Mandarin immersion, depending on the learner’s needs.

Experienced early learners’ chinese language teacher. She founded a Chinese Language programme in Bangkok, Thailand in 2016 which incorporated design thinking and conceptualisation. Her programme supported Thai and expatriate parents in acquiring Mandarin Chinese as a foreign language. She is well-versed in both PRC’s HSK syllabus and MOE (Sg) primary school syllabus.

Graduated from Singapore Management University with a Bachelor in Economics, she  is also a trained designer. She will be awarded the ICTP (International Chinese Teacher Programme) certificate from Beijing Language and Culture University for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language in March 2019.

Shu Fen

Teacher Shu Fen holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education (Honours) Degree from National Institute of Education (Singapore). She’s an innovative educator adept at bringing 21st-century skills into the classroom.

In her years of teaching in a primary school, Teacher Shu Fen provided effective classroom management and creative lesson plans. Under her guidance, most of her students attain A for PSLE.

Teacher Shu Fen is enthusiastic about education and always strives to do the best for her students.

Jimmy Teh

Teacher Jimmy has a Bachelor of Arts (Economics) from National University of Singapore and a Post Graduate Diploma in Education from National Institute of Education. He is a former MOE teacher who taugh Economics in a Junior College for 6 years. He has experience starting his own learning and enrichment centre and was the founder and curriculum director before it was sold. He has many years of experience teaching both H1 and H2 Economics and has created a dynamic and proven system for his students. This has led to his students achieving high distinction rates (above 70%).

Andy Sim

Teacher Andy Sim completed a Bachelor of Engineering in Materials Engineering from Nanyang Technological University in 2004. He worked as an associate lecturer in Republic Polytechnic for 6 years and full time lecturer for 4 years. He holds a Graduate Diploma in Psychology from Monash University, Australia and Master of Arts in Counselling and Guidance from National Institute of Education. He finds joy interacting with children and youths. He believes that learning should be fun. Andy specialises in Maths and Science subjects.

Ng Kiak Peng

Teacher Kiak Peng holds a Master of Science (Information Studies), Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Language and Literature and a Degree of Bachelor of Communication Studies (Hons.). Her professional stints include working with the media and various government institutions. She worked with Television Corporation of Singapore and gained experience in translation by subtitling Chinese programmes for SPH MediaWorks and translating children’s books. She then joined Tan Tock Seng Hospital as a Patients Relations Services Executive where dealing with feedback providers honed her communication skills.

She later joined the Ministry of Education (Singapore) as a Management Executive where she put her experience in translation and corporate communications knowledge to good use. While she enjoyed the work at MOE, she wanted to be more directly involved in encouraging life-long learning, a cause which is close to her heart. As such, she joined the National Library Board (NLB) as a librarian with the Public Library Services in mid-2006. She was appointed Service Team Leader to lead a team of librarians in achieving targets set, and being tasked to head the Chinese Language Services team. She has experience networking with schools/organizations for outreach opportunities, planning and executing projects and developing the library collection.

Mahaletchumi Sivalingam

Teacher Mahaletchumi Sivalingam (Maha) is a passionate tutor of the English Language. With 20 years of teaching experience, she has had the opportunity to teach and facilitate students’ crucial learning, understanding and application of the English Language along with other language-related studies, namely, ESL, EAP, IELTS, SAT, GCE O’ Level (English), GCE A’ Level (GP), IGCSE (English & Literature), Edexcel (English & Literature) and IB (English, Extended Essay & TOK). Presently, she tutors at the Singapore national universities as well as polytechnics and continues to nurture secondary, junior college, and international school students privately. She is keen on developing not only the knowledge and skills of the learner but also the critical literacy skills required to meet the competencies for the 21st century. She enjoys nurturing young hearts and minds, plus create joy in her teaching and learning.

Alvin Sim

Teacher Alvin Sim graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelors of Social Sciences (First Class Honours in Geography). He then attained a Postgraduate Diploma in Education with Distinction from the National Institute of Education. He previously served as a Head of Department in various schools before taking on the role of Vice-Principal in an international school overseas, overseeing academic matters and enrichment programmes. Alvin is an experienced educator, having taught Geography, Social Studies and English Language at the primary, secondary (including the integrated programme) as well as the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme levels. He believes that education is about the development of the whole person and that with education, one cultivates a heightened sensitivity to the world  one lives in.

Jim

As an ex-MOE lecturer, Teacher Jim has 14 years of teaching experience in Junior Colleges and Secondary Schools. Equipped with deep content knowledge, he strongly believes that each and every student is able to excel beyond their potential given the right support and guidance. Known for his patience to teach difficult concepts, Teacher Jim is also able to effectively vary his teaching strategies to suit the different profiles of his students.

Cynthia

As an former MOE teacher. She has 9 years of teaching experience specialising in upper secondary Pure Chemistry and combined science (Phy/Chem). An energetic teacher, she designs her lessons to be highly effective and engaging. Her students find her lessons easy to follow and enjoyable. Furthermore, she uses many meaningful examples in real world context to help her students deconstruct complex concepts.

Sherwin Loo
